Starting with Zines

I’ve been playing around with zines and using them as creative ways to express my thoughts.

Zines are self-published things. I don’t have a better way to describe them in my head. You can see examples below. They’re sort of like pamphlets, or handouts, but not quite. They’re not magazines and don’t have a “professional level” to hit. Some of mine are rough, and others are a little more structured. Zines began as a way to express content from non-mainstream subcultures such as punk and grunge. It seemed a good medium to get druid and witchy things into the world.

I’ve been following brattyxbre and learning a lot about zines. She has an “all about zines” playlist that is really handy if you’re interested in the craft. There are lots of other zine creators on YouTube, and there is a subreddit for it – r/zines.

A bit late, but I’ve made an Ostara Zine, and one for Loki. If you’d like to swap zines, please reach out via Instagram DM @druidinthecity
