Disconnecting and re-connecting
For those of you who know me you know I prefer to live in an urban environment, preferably in a city. And I’m studying the path of Druidry. It may seem like a bit of an oxymoron, but I’m an Urban Druid.
There’s nature all around us in the cities – mushrooms growing in the roots of trees, birds and squirrels darting around our apartment complexes, green spaces in our parks and gardens. Even apartment dwellers like myself can have a container garden with herbs, flowers and vegetables.
The hardest part for me seems to be disconnecting from the computer and reconnecting with the natural world – including myself! There’s just so much to do and learn in the internet – online classes, research papers, facebook, pinterest, twitter, and so much more!
It can be great to disconnect, even if it’s only for fifteen minutes while I water and tend to my patio garden. But sometimes, even just occasionally, it’s good to just disconnect from your every day work and life for longer than a few minutes. Disconnecting from the rush of our daily life, for a day or a weekend or longer, helps us to re-connect with ourselves and our spirituality.
In a few days, I’m heading off to a cabin in the woods with a very good friend. Together we’re going to have 3 days of spending time with each other, spending time in nature, cooking, reading and drinking together.
We’re not doing this trip to disconnect, but to re-connect, with each other, and with ourselves. We might still have time on laptops and eReaders, but most of our time will be spent with each other, and in nature.
It’s going to be great!
